Trex Select retailer rk MILES is pleased to announce Margot Smithson of Whiting, VT as the winner of its recent Ugliest Deck Contest.

The contest invited entrants to submit photos of their ugly deck and explain why they need a new deck, with submissions accepted through the month of May. The Smithson's deck was deemed the ugliest of all qualifying entries by an rk MILES panel of judges. They will receive an all new 12' x 12' Trex Select Deck and railings valued at more than $4,000.

In her contest submission, Margot Smithson explained that she had inherited the 25 year-old deck along with the house in 2009. "We were able to use the deck for the first few years- not anymore. I have fallen through it twice, a 3rd time when I walked out the door and the stairs slid out from under me," Smithson noted in her entry. "The items on the deck are abandoned, too unsafe... In fact only the chickens make it up there," she added. The winnings will allow the Smithson's to enjoy an exceptional view once again.

"This deck is not only ugly, but it is completely unsafe," noted John Fish, rk MILES' Middlebury General Manager during the judging process. "We had so many great qualified entries, but the Smithson's deck was, by far, the one that needs the most attention," Fish added.
